We’re looking for reliable, hands-on freelance build crew to support the on-site construction, installation, and breakdown of exhibition stands across a range of venues and event formats. This is a practical, fast-moving role suited to people who enjoy working on live sites, take pride in high-quality finishes, and understand the teamwork and pace required in exhibitions.
You’ll work as part of the site build team, following direction from the Site Manager / Production Manager, helping deliver stands safely, on time, and to spec.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the on-site build, assembly, and finishing of exhibition stands, structures, and event environments.
- Load in and unload materials, components, graphics, and tools, keeping storage areas organised and safe.
- Build modular and custom stand elements from plans and instructions (walls, floors, lighting rigs, furniture, AV, graphics, etc.).
- Support with installing branded graphics, vinyls, fascias, lightboxes, and signage to a clean, accurate finish.
- Carry out basic carpentry, fixing, and fit-out tasks as required (drilling, fixing, levelling, aligning, etc.).
- Work collaboratively with other crew, suppliers, and venue teams to meet tight build schedules.
- Keep the work area tidy and hazard-free throughout build and breakdown.
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures, PPE requirements, and venue regulations.
- Assist with snagging and final checks to ensure the stand is presentation-ready.
- Support de-rig and load out efficiently after the event, packing materials carefully for return transport.
- Escalate any issues, damages, or missing components to the Site Manager quickly.
Required Skills & Experience
- Previous on-site build / crew experience within exhibitions, events, staging, set build, or similar environments.
- Confident using basic hand and power tools safely (e.g., drills, drivers, saws, spirit levels).
- Ability to follow technical drawings, stand plans, and build instructions.
- Strong practical mindset with good attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Comfortable working on your feet for long periods and handling physical tasks / heavy lifting.
- Proven reliability, punctuality, and a professional attitude on client sites.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a fast-paced crew.
- Solid understanding of on-site Health & Safety expectations; CSCS or similar site safety certification is a plus (where applicable).
- Flexible availability for early starts, late finishes, and multi-day builds.
- Own PPE preferred (safety boots, hi-vis, gloves, etc.).
- Full driving licence beneficial but not essential (depending on venue/location).
